Manipulating strings in Java is supported through two final classes: String and StringBuffer. The String class implements immutable strings, which are read once the channel has been created and initialized, whereas the StringBuffer class implements dynamic chains. All string literals in Java programs run as instances of the String class. Strings in Java are 16-bit Unicode.
Note: In JDK 1.5 +, you can use StringBuilder, which works exactly like StringBuffer, but this thread is faster and unsafe
The easiest way to create a String object is using a string literal:
String str1 = "You can not change once created";
A string literal is a reference to a String. Since a string literal is a reference, can be manipulated like any other reference string. ie that can be used to invoke the methods of the String class.
For example,
Int myLength A = "Hello World". length ();
The Java language provides special support for the concatenation operator (+), which has been overloaded for String objects. String concatenation is done through StringBuffer class and its append method.
For example,
FinalString String A = "Hello" + "world"
It would be like
FinalString String = new StringBuffer (). Append ( "Hello"). Append ( "World"). ToString ();
The Java compiler optimizes handling of string literals. A string object is shared by all channels with the same sequence of characters. These channels would be interned, in the sense that they share a single string object. The String class maintains a private pool, where the strings are interned.
For example,
A String str1 = "Hello";
A String str2 = "Hello";
If (str1 == str2)
System.out.println (an "equal");
Dimensions - equal impression when launched.
Given that String objects are immutable. Any operation performed reference to a string will have no effect on other references denoting the same object.
Manufacturers
String class provides various types of constructors to create String objects. Some of them are
String ()
Create a new String object whose content is IE empty "A".
(String s)
Created a new String object whose content is the same as the string object passed as argument.
Note: The constructor creates a new channel means that no chain intern. Internship reference to a string object can be obtained by the method () inner class String
String also provides constructors with byte array and char argument and returns String object.
String Equality
Replaces string class equals () class of objects. It compares the contents of two string objects and returns the boolean value accordingly.
For example,
A String str1 = "Hello";
A String str2 = "Hello";
String str3 = new String ( "Hello") / / Constructor using.
If (str1 == str2)
System.out.println ( "equal to 1A);
Other
System.out.println ( "Not Equal 1A");
If (str1 == str3)
System.out.println (a "Equal 2A");
Other
System.out.println (a "I'm done with the constructor, which
not interned ");
If (str1.equals (str3))
System.out.println (an "equal 3A);
Other
System.out.println ( "Not Equal 3A);
The output
Equal to 1
Not equal to 2
= 3
Note that == compares the references not to the actual content of the String object, which equals as a method compares the actual content of the two string objects.
String class also provides another method equalsIgnoreCase () which ignores the case of content while the comparison.
Besides these methods of the String class also provides compareTo methods.
int compareTo (String str2)
This method compares two strings and returns an int value. Returns
0 if this string is equal to the string argument
a value less than 0 if this string is less than the chain
argument
a value greater than 0 if this string is greater for
argument string
int compareTo (Object)
This method behaves exactly like the first method, if the argument object is actually a String, otherwise it throws a ClassCastException.
String Manipulation
Read Character string:
char charAt (index i)
Returns char in the specified index. The index ranges from 0 to length () -1.
Search string characters
String class provides indexOf method for the object specified character string. This method has been overloaded. If the research succeeds, it returns the index of the characters otherwise it returns -1.
int indexOf (int c)
Returns the index of first occurrence of the char argument.
int indexOf (int c, fromIndex int)
Find the index of the first occurrence of character in a string argument from the specified index in the second argument.
int indexOf (String str)
Find the starting index of the first occurrence of substring in a string argument.
int indexOf (String str, int fromIndex)
Find the starting index of the first occurrence of substring in a string argument from the specified index in the second argument.
The String class also provides methods to locate a character or string upstream direction. These methods are listed below.
lastIndexOf (int)
lastIndexOf (int, int fromIndex)
int lastIndexOf (String str)
int lastIndexOf (String str, int fromIndex)
Replacing string characters
Replace the chain method can be used to replace all occurrences of the specified character to given character.
Replace String (oldChar char, int newchar)
How substrings
String class provides the chain method to extract a specific part of the string given. This method has been overloaded.
String substring (int startIndex)
String substring (int startIndex, int endIndex)
Note: a new string object containing the substring is created and returned. The original String wonÂ't be affected.
If the index value is invalid, a StringIndexOutOfBoundsException closed.

String class provides set of overloaded static valueOf method to convert primitives and objects to strings.

Knob capitalization
The String class provides the following methods to manipulate the capitalization at the chain.
String toUpperCase ()
String toUpperCase (Locale locale)
String toLowerCase ()
String toLowerCase (Locale locale)
Note: Original String object is returned if none of the characters changed, otherwise string object is to build a new and returned.
Several methods
String trim ()
This method removes white space at the front and end of a string.
int length ()
Returns the length of the string.
String intern ()
This method returns interned String object, if it is present in Group ropes. Otherwise, this string is added to the pool, then internal reference is returned.
