How long dose it take to become a guitar pro?
now im not saying a master at the guitar but to know all the chords and some songd. enough to start your own band!
To learn all the chords? I've been playing quite a while, and I don't know "all" of the chords (there are about 40,000 of them if you factor in all the different positions you can play them in). You learn what you need as you need it.
A college professional once told me that you need to do something for 10,000 hours before you can master it.
Guitar playing comes easier for some than others. I know kids that have been playing for a couple of years that, technique-wise, can play circles around me. The problem is that the little shred-masters can't play a song for the life of them.
It's all about balance.
As far as starting a band, once you get the basic mechanics of playing down (major, minor, 7th, & 5 chords) then find some other folks and start learning songs together. Yes, you will stink when you start (although if you're like most you're going to think that you sound better than you really are). But that's the fun of it.
I'll tell you this much, playing with other people (at least for me) is the best way to improve. I've learned something from every musician I've ever played or jammed with...even if it's what "not to do".
