You can virtually guarantee that bass, Electric Guitar and Guitar pickups will all be based upon the Humbucker design. At the most very basic level the humbucker pickup takes the playing of a Guitar String and turns it into an electrical signal.
It was on June 22 1955 that Seth E Lover applied for the patent to his humbucker pickup. That patent went on to describe the principle objectives of the humbucker pickup were to:
"First, to provide a magnetic pickup for a stringed musical instrument which is not affected by adjacent electrical devices and which does not pick up and transmit to the amplifier the hum of such devices
Second, to provide an electromagnetic pickup for stringed musical instruments with magnetically opposed pickup coils that neutralise the effects of currents induced by adjacent electrical devices.
Third, to provide a hum neutralising magnetic pickup that is efficient in producing electrical vibrations in response to the playing of a stringed instrument.
Fourth, to provide a magnetic pickup that effectively employs relatively small masses of permanent magnetic material and is easily mounted on a stringed musical instrument in proper relation to the string of the instrument.
Fifth, to provide a magnetic pickup having a metallic magnetic return circuit between a pole of the permanent magnet and a coacting string of a musical instrument to increase the strength of the magnetic field around the string and improve the efficiency of the permanent magnet."

Bass Pickups
Although the patent was applied for in 1955 it wasn't until July 28 1959 that the patent was granted. This led to the early humbucker pickups to have a PAF sticker on the back - PAF meaning Patent Applied For. This term, however, stuck and humbucker pickups are often referred to as PAFs.
Guitar pick up
A humbucker pickup incorporates two coils both responsible for generating string signal. The two coils have opposite polarity, windings and are connected in series. This effectively causes noise and interference to be significantly reduced - or 'buck the hum'. How the pickups got their name.
Guitar pickups
Playing an electric guitar without humbuckers would cause a slight, but very annoying hum during silent passages of play. The source of this hum could be amplifiers, motors, power lines - in short any electrical source. Humbuckers effectively reduce the hum for more than single coil pickups.
There is no doubt that if you have a Bass Pickups, Electric Guitar Pickups, Guitar pick up and guitar pickups. Then they'll all humbucker pickups based upon that one single patent.
