for awhile ive been anchoring my pinky to the high e string but i heard its bad so i started anchoring my palm on the bridge and low e string but thats bad to so i tried the way where it sort of floats above the string but then when i start picking it sounds very weak and not strong enough to do faster stuff and i get messed up easier. any exercises to correct this? also should electric Guitar Strings feels loose or tight because all my string are tight except the G string but i got it at big lots and it wasnt set up correctly.
Your hand should float slightly above the strings. Forget the pinky resting and all that.
Just hold the pick lightly and push the pick on the downstroke, and lift the pick on the up-stroke. This creates a small circular motion of the pick. When you achieve this, you know you are doint alternate-picking correctly.
The pick should be at an angle and lastly, change the thickness of the pick. Sometimes, when using light and extra light, gauge, a medium gauge pick is good for speed as well as making the tone cleaner.
Practice this with alternate picking.
Finger the E-note (5th string) 7th fret
then F# (5th string) 9th fret
then F (5th string) 10 fret
and lastly, the A-note (4th string) 7th fret
then, F# (5th string) 9th fret
then F (5th string) 10 fret
E-note (5th string) 7th fret
use alternative picking and the go backward from the 4th to the 5th string. This is to develop speed and alternate picking precision.
