What is the difference between an ebony and rosewood fingerboard upon a violin and, which would you recommend?
The fingerboard of a violin is always ebony. What you're talking about is the distinction between ebony and rosewood fittings; fittings are the pegs, chinrest and tailpiece.
Fittings may be either ebony (the standard black, which match the fingerboard), or a rosewood, which is a brown color. The rosewood are usually a bit pricier and nicer, but not always.
