Guitar tablature, standard notation, vocal melody, lyrics, chord names, guitar chord diagrams and strum and pick patterns. Guitar amplifiers are always an interesting challenge. The tone controls, gain and overload characteristics are very individual, and the ideal combination varies from one guitarist to the next, and from one guitar to the next. Acoustic models are solid carved top and back whereas electrics are plywood. In addition, the electronics on New York Epiphones are not as sonically good as compared to Gibson of the same period or to the later Gibson-made Epiphones. Acoustic guitars–that is, guitars that do not use electric magnification to create a louder sound–tend to be made out of wood. Traditionally, a guitar has six strings, each of which is attached to tuning machines on the head of the guitar. Acoustic guitars can stand alone, and make beautiful acoustics, even without some electronic device to amplify it. When people think of guitars, an acoustic guitar will often be the image in mind. Electromagnetic pickups convert the vibration of the steel strings into electric signals which are fed to an amplifier through a cable or radio device. The sound is frequently modified by other electronic devices or natural distortion of valves in the amplifier. Electric guitars are known as the main attraction of rock music. These guitars have been famous since rock music was introduced and blend very well with jazz, pop and even blues music. Electric guitars usually have narrow necks. Most steel-string guitars’ necks are somewhere in between. Necks are generally made of mahogany, and fingerboards are usually made of dense tropical hardwoods such as rosewood or ebony. The various combinations of the different woods and their quality, along with design and construction elements (for example, how the top is braced) are among the factors affecting the tone of the guitar. Neck width, string spacing and scale length are tailored to the individual player. Neck-thru guitars have a lot of sustain and the tonal properties of the wood used for the center column, which is usually maple. Therefore, most neck-thru guitars tend to have a very bright sound with lots of sustain. Bass guitar is not normally a strummed instrument. It is usually given the bass line, and in some groups is considered interchangeable with the double bass. Bass notes are robust and solid. Chords ring with the full brilliance you expect from a well-crafted instrument.
